What is Holiness? (Jul 2004)

Holiness is not perfectionism, sinlessness, or self-centered religion. We think Oswald Chambers' definition is excellent: "a blazing truthfulness with regard to God's Word, and an amazing tenderness in regard to personal dealing." It has also been described as "the attribute of all attributes" of God, and is therefore indispensable in developing the character of God and Christ in our hearts. The phrase "perfecting holiness in the fear of God" from 2 Corinthians 7:1 is examined, as well as the kinds of behaviors and attitudes that will mirror the inward spiritual perfection and holiness that believers receive when they are sanctified by the gift of holy spirit.
